AAA Yellow Cab – Taxi Driver

The inside of a taxi is not the most consistent environment when considering each occasion one is called. The taxicab is as unique as the driver of the vehicle and just as odorous. The author’s experience with taxi services for medical transportation has been an ongoing battle with gratitude and loathing.

The service, which is covered by insurance, is the source of so much stress (and convenience) that it is impossible to give a baseline as the service is never consistent.

Though it lacks consistency, without that transportation service many Arizona patients would not have the ability to travel to medically related appointments.

This is not a blast towards the AAA Yellow Cab Company. It is an evaluation of this company’s taxicab drivers in conjunction with the medical transportation services they participate in only. Conspicuously, service towards cash-paying customers far exceeds insurance-paid customer’s experiences.

To provide a fair assessment of the transpiration experience, consideration of the taxi driver is paramount. The author has spoken with a number of taxi drivers both male and female of differing races, nationalities, and religious persuasions to gather some perspective. There is a system that these independent contractors called taxi drivers use to make money, which determines just how dedicated they are to taxi calls from medically related fare.
Meeting Draw

Taxicab drivers have to meet a daily rent for the cost of using their taxi. If it cost $150 daily to meet this draw, until the driver earns that amount in fare, he or she has not made any take-home money for the day. It is important for each taxi driver to take fare that will help him or her. The weekly total for renting the taxi can be very costly unless the driver owns the taxicab.

Depending on the driver, he or she will not indicate that the draw is difficult to achieve. It depends on the car. If the car is and older model of taxi, the draw will be lower, but gas cost will be higher if the car is newer, it most likely is a hybrid electric/gas car and the draw is higher. Gas cost are relatively low.

Dining In An Antique Railroad Car in Willcox Arizona – A Restaurant Review

Situated along Interstate-10 in Arizona just east of the New Mexico border and laying about halfway between Phoenix, Arizona and El Paso, Texas is the city of Willcox.

Originally founded in 1880 as a minor stop for the Southern Pacific Railroad, the city grew and was incorporated in 1915. The area is ideal for cattle ranching and this, plus being a stop for the railroad resulted in the city becoming a major center for cattle raising.

While cattle are still important to the local economy, agriculture is also important with cotton being a major product earlier in its history.

While the railroad still passes through the city, the main transportation link today is Interstate-10 which crosses the southern border of the United States linking Atlanta on the East Coast with Los Angeles on the West Coast.
Interstate-10 is the major southern thoroughfare for the transportation of both goods and tourists and Willcox caters to both with the cattle, cotton, pecans and other crops it ships to the rest of the nation along with its growing U-Pick farms and wineries that cater to tourists. Willcox is also a convenient jumping off point for visitors to nearby Chchise Stronghold recreation area and those hiking to the ruins of nearby Fort Bowie.
Whether you are spending a day or so visiting the sites in the Willcox area or simply driving past on Interstate-10 and if you are hungry or just looking for a unique dining experience swing by Big Tex BBQ for a meal.

A Bit of History With Your Dinner

Situated in an old red railroad car at 130 E. Maley St. in Willcox and in the immediate vicinity of the Willcox Historic District, the old train depot (which is now the Willcox City Hall) and Rex Allen Theater and memorial, the restaurant provides good food in an old time atmosphere.

While Barbecue (Bar-B-Q or BBQ) appears to be their specialty, the menu includes a number of other western and traditional American casual dining meal and sandwich selections. The food is very good with hearty serving sizes and reasonable prices. The service was friendly and fast the two times my wife and I have visited so far.

If you have time after your meal, you can enjoy a stroll down S. Railroad Ave. through the historic district with its old buildings and monument, theater and museum all dedicated to 1940s cowboy singer and cowboy star Rex Allen who hailed from Willcox.

Tucson International Airport (TUS) Car Rental and Transportation

There are several inherent advantages to renting a car for the duration of your vacation or business trip, and in most cases the convenience of having a vehicle ready when you are for site seeing or commute to the next important business meeting, can turn out to be well worth the expense. Immediate car availability usually equals time saved, minutes and hours that can really add up over the course of an extended stay in Tucson or any other global destination. Convenience, immediate access, and time efficiency aspects that a rental car provides can indeed be the defining factors and difference between an enjoyable vacation or business trip, and one in which the inherent stress endured as a result of waiting around for your next ride in between destinations over shadows an otherwise fun day at the amusement park, or elaborate new product presentation to prospective business partners at the upscale hotel or convention center.

At the other end of the planning spectrum is another essential consideration which should be addressed during the research phase, and that is cost. Although there are many inherent benefits gained by picking up and dropping off a rental car at Tucson International Airport, if you can’t find and secure the vehicle for a fair price via successful negotiations, cost adjusted specials, or frequent user discounts generally offered to repeat customers, your travel budget, unless immune to a “Breaking Point”, must be massaged accordingly to accommodate this full priced expenditure which is subordinate in cost only to airfare, hotel room(s), and dining. But all things considered, if convenience and time efficiency are important factors when traveling, signing up for a rental car is almost an essential element, and having immediate vehicle access for the duration of your stay should help to provide a seamless and stress free transportation experience that may be worth the extra added monetary consideration applied to the overall budget.

Top Benefits Of Handicap Vans

If you or a loved one is wheelchair-bound you know how important mobility is. If you’ve been struggling with a regular car or van it’s time to consider choosing a more accessible vehicle. There are many benefits to driving handicap vans. One of the most important of all benefits is the safety factor. Trying to transport a handicap person in a standard vehicle isn’t just difficult, it’s also unsafe. A ramp or, even better, a wheelchair lift, is helpful for safe transport of someone in a wheelchair of scooter.

Handicap vans offer a very safe way to provide transportation to disabled people. The wheelchair lift is easy to use. The device operates with a button or lever. The lift lets the disabled person get into the van while still seated in their chair. The wheelchair is rolled onto the lift and then locked into place. The lift is then activated to raise the chair up to the van floor. Then the chair can be rolled off the lift and into place inside the van.

Wheelchair patients are able to sit in their own wheelchairs during the ride. Some of the original seats of the van are removed to make room for the wheelchair. Special devices are installed that allow the chair to quickly and easily lock into place. This ensures that the chair doesn’t move while in transit. Other special features may be added such as handles for gripping and lights for better visibility in the van.

Many disabled people don’t leave home much because of poor transportation options. One of the benefits of owning a handicap van is that you and your disabled loved one will be able to get out much more readily. The van is always available, unlike some public transportation options for disabled people. This allows the handicapped person to get out and do the things they enjoy, any time they like.

Handicap vans provide independence for disabled drivers. Those who are disabled can actually drive a vehicle if it’s been properly adapted. One of the most common types of adaptations is a driver control unit. This adapts the driver’s gas and brake pedals for use by the hands rather than by the feet. Other special controls can be used to adapt other dashboard buttons for use by the disabled person. The disabled driver may sit in his own wheelchair while driving or may opt for the installation of a specially designed seat to accommodate any special needs that he may have.

All Motor Vehicles Are Required To Have Arizona State Car Insurance

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the state requires insurance coverage for all motor vehicle driven or operated on the Arizona roadways pursuant to the legislated law on financial responsibility. The minimum liability insurance limits are $15,000 for injuries to one person, $30,000 for injuries of two or more persons, and $10,000 to cover for damage to property, resulting from an accident. Those who drive their cars or other vehicles in Arizona are aware of the potential dangers of the road which could easily lead to an accident. Hence, it is of prime importance that the car has the necessary insurance coverage.

The Arizona state law mandates that both the vehicle owner and the insurance company provide and submit proof of car insurance from accredited insurance providers in Arizona, within one month after the initial car registration. The law also requires insurance companies to regularly provide information to the Motor Vehicles Division or MVD in terms of all cancellations, new issuance, and renewals of insurance policies of all motor vehicles.

While each state in the country may have different accepted levels of financial responsibility, all states require compliance with this car registration or renewal of registration requirement, which is the need to present proof of financial responsibility when processing the renewal of car registration or driver’s license. Without car insurance, the registration process may be suspended or disapproved. When driving around Arizona, police officers may ask for proof of insurance at random checking. Arizona state car insurance and private insurance companies are mandated by the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) of the Department of Transportation to notify the division of all insurance policy non-renewals, cancellations, and new policies. Once MVD receives notification from the insurance company that your policy has not been renewed, MVD will communicate with the motorists to inquire about the status of their car insurance.

With the advent of technology and internet, drivers and vehicle owners will not have any valid argument on why they failed to renew their policies. The ease of processing a policy renewal can be done online and there are several Arizona auto insurance online offering the service. If your vehicle registration and driver’s license are suspended because of your failure to keep the required insurance for the car, reinstating the privileges will be more costly for the car owner or the driver. MVD will require presentation of “future proof of financial responsibility” from the car owner who wants the reinstatement of the suspended registration. The required “future proof of responsibility” is what insurance Arizona state car insurance companies call as SR22 form. The law requires that the vehicle owner carry the SR 22 for three years from the date of suspension.

Vehicles with out-of-state insurance will not be accepted in Arizona. The law requires that all motor vehicles that are registered in Arizona must carry the proper insurance coverage from Arizona auto insurance online or offline companies. For out-of-state Arizona residents, however, they may submit a De-Insured Certificate on their vehicle, on a temporary basis. De-insurance is the process of temporarily freezing the insurance policy of the vehicle that is not ready to be operated on or driven back on the road again. The vehicle with a De-Insured Certificate will not be suspended for lack of insurance.

Arizona’s Tourist Destinations

If you are a bona fide traveler, you should have already crossed out Arizona in your list of not-yet-visited destinations. Arizona is indeed a place frequently visited by travelers around the world. Along with the breathtaking sceneries in the state are trustworthy and tourist-friendly airport limo service s which would not only provide travelers with fast phoenix airport ground transportation but also, the hospitality, orientation, and information they need in order to fully enjoy their stay. Right after the moment traveler-tourists leave their plane; they’ll be assured of a quality tour from several phoenix airport transportation services that would welcome and introduce them to Arizona’s well-protected natural treasures.

While enjoying the comforts of riding a limousine of high quality, travelers would have a clear grasp of what Arizona’s natural geography could offer for the eyes. In the central metropolitan area of Phoenix, where the usual tours start, travelers would be introduced to the different museum and galleries that boasts-of the states’ rich Old West and Native American history. Aside from these museums are the largest Meccas of culture and entertainment of the area, The Valley of the Sun. Also, after driving around the whole city and passing through its streets, travelers would realize how adjacent the city is to the spectacular milieu of the Sonoran Desert.

Northern Arizona is probably the most famous destination that tourist tours accommodate. Aside from the rich blue waters of Lake Powell and the lush green forests of San Francisco Peaks, the north is also the home for Arizona’s infamous steep-sided red rocks or the Grand Canyon. This keeps the travelers busy all throughout the tour. It is already of common knowledge that the Canyon homes one of the most famous, if not the most famous national park in the whole of United States. The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long and is more than a mile (1.6 km) deep. Also, just like the whole state of Arizona, the Grand Canyon shares its load of history – it has been said that the Canyon is created by the Colorado River for a 17 million year time span. This history is probably one of the factors why travelers and tourists find the Grand Canyon interesting. Northern Arizona also homes Route 66, or the “Mother Road.” Traveling through Route 66 would give the travelers the pleasure of enjoying a feast of colors brought about by the sceneries of the north – the red depicted in the rocks of the Grand Canyon, green from the forests of the San Francisco Peaks, and blue from the clear waters of Lake Powell.

Travelers’ journey on Southern Arizona, and the West Coast is also as exciting as that in Phoenix and the north. Travelers would be given more knowledge of Native American History by the time they pass through different galleries and historical places in both of the area.

Arizona’s Road Construction Projects Create Dangerous Driving Conditions

Road construction zones often present shifting traffic patterns and uneven surfaces for car and truck drivers to navigate. Often, there is little notice of these dangerous conditions. On an average day, 11 automobile accidents take place in Arizona road construction zones. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (DOT), these accidents have accounted for over 80 deaths and more than 11,000 injuries in the past five years. Drivers and their passengers account for the vast majority of the people hurt in these accidents.

Car Accidents in Construction Zones

Construction zones are a common sight on Arizona roads these days. Many major construction projects, such as those currently underway on Interstates 10 and 17, Highway 93 and State Routes 92 and 179, are expected to extend to late 2009 or 2010. These projects cause general upheaval that can result in hazardous road conditions, including:

• Poorly marked or unmarked construction areas
• Improperly installed or missing guardrails
• Inadequate lighting
• Uneven road surfaces
• Potholes
• Gravel and debris on the road
• Sudden lane restrictions
• Unexpected traffic congestion
• Sudden speed limit changes

In combination with the disruption of normal traffic patterns, these kinds of conditions frequently turn road construction zones into the sites of serious auto accidents.

Studies conducted by the Arizona DOT report that the most common type of road construction zone crash is a rear-end collision. This type of crash accounts for approximately half of all accidents. Many collisions also involve fixed objects, such as barriers and stationary construction equipment.

Common injuries in car crashes include broken bones, spinal cord injuries and brain damage. Death can also occur, and fatal accidents are often the result of single vehicle crashes.

Legal Issues to Consider

Several important factors affect the legal claims of those injured in vehicle accidents in road construction zones. Carefully documenting the conditions that led to an accident is an important first step in preparing for a lawsuit. Arizona law (A.R.S. § 28-650) requires that proper warning signs and barricades be maintained for the duration of all road construction. This applies to both municipal workers and private contractors. Engaging an attorney to thoroughly analyze the accident report and interview eyewitnesses is essential to preparing for a lawsuit and improving your chances of recovering fair financial compensation.

It is also vital to identify the party responsible for the accident. If the Arizona Department of Transportation or other governmental entity controlled the road construction zone when the accident occurred, certain types of legal immunity may come into play. An attorney can determine whether the state or local government can be held liable for injuries or other damages caused by their employees or contractors. Other potentially responsible parties include private contractors, subcontractors, construction companies, engineers and surveyors that were involved with performing the construction work, maintaining the road construction zone and designing the highway or bridge. Government immunity does not shield these private parties.

Timing is a third important issue. An injured party must serve a notice of a claim involving government employees or entities within 180 days of the accident (A.R.S. § 12-821.01) and file a lawsuit within one year (A.R.S. § 12-821). Claims against other parties must be made within two years. Accident report analyses and interviews can be time-consuming, and delays, especially in the time period immediately following an accident, can be costly. In general, it is best to contact a lawyer as soon as possible after a road construction zone accident to ensure that your interests are protected.

Africa’s intracontinental trade has nearly doubled since 1995, and the increasing volume of goods moving through the supply chain is creating transportation and logistical complexities that slow down shipments. To ensure goods reach consumers and businesses more efficiently, Transnet, together with GE Transportation, is implementing a digital solution powered by GE’s Predix, the first operating system for the industrial internet.

An on-demand solution

It will seamlessly connect shippers and transport operators by providing real-time, data-driven insights on the status of shipments. It takes laborious processes, like payment, customs and inspection, from paper to digital, and creates an on-demand solution for transporting freight inspired by consumer on-demand transportation models.

“Optimising the speed and effectiveness of our supply chain is critical to improving our economy’s health and competitiveness,” said Transnet Group Chief Executive, Siyabonga Gama. “Our partnership with GE Transportation is an important step in moving our operations forward and overcoming our biggest shipping challenges.”

Digitising transportation

The platform will enable Transnet and its partners to bring products to market faster and for less cost across the vast African landscape, ultimately increasing the opportunity for cross-border trade. It will also digitise transportation and logistics across rail, trucks and ships, encouraging seamless integration throughout the entire supply chain.

“We’re committed to leveraging our digital expertise to drive forward industries and local markets worldwide,” said Jamie Miller, president and CEO, GE Transportation. “We have a rich history of partnership with Transnet, and are excited to continue working with them to unlock game-changing potential for the local supply chain that is at the heart of Africa’s global economy.”

Transnet and GE Transportation have partnered since 2009 to manufacture and deliver over 230 Evolution Series diesel electric locomotives, including the “most African” locomotive, which featured 55 percent locally produced content.
